WORTHINGTON -- Nobles County Commissioners on Tuesday approved a 3.2 beer permit applied for by Mike Potter of UFCW Local Union 1161 for a rodeo from 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 2 on the premises of Raul Godinez Vaquero, 14074 Read Ave. (in Section 30 of Graham Lakes Township).
Robert Ramirez said the rodeo is hoped to become an annual event. It is being conducted by Ranch El Tapatia Rodeo.
Several concerns were raised by commissioners regarding the application and event, and those were addressed in stipulations placed on the liquor license. Among the stipulations are that no alcohol be served after 10:30 p.m.; that sheriff's deputies be allowed access on site before, during and after the event; that parking be off the road; and that sober cabs be provided to take people home if necessary.
Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening raised some of the concerns leading to the stipulations.
"I am a little bit uneasy about this," Wilkening told commissioners. "It is on a narrow township road, and I'm concerned about parking. I don't know about noise, if they are going to have music at the rodeo."

Ramirez said music will be a part of the event, although it would be stopped between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Also, he said parking will be provided for on the farm site, and no parking will be allowed on the county road.
Addressing concerns about insurance and safety, Ramirez said the group organizing the event has secured a $500,000 insurance policy, and it plans to ask for an ambulance to be on sight throughout the event. He also said plans are to hire off-duty law enforcement officers to provide security at the event.
