Bluejays split pair of duals at wrestling triangular

The Minnesota West wrestling team took part in a triangular meet Thursday, coming away with a split.

Minnesota West gained a matter of revenge in the first dual, defeating Rochester 26-23. The victory avenged a December meeting between the two teams, which Rochester won 26-23.

Tony Sauer earned a major decision victory at 157 pounds when he defeated Kyle Kallenbach, 12-2. The last time the two schools met, Kallenbach, picked up and overtime victory over Sauer.

Dallas Mitchell moved to the 197-pound division due to injuries, and was able to pick up a major decision, 17-3, over Kent. Tengblad.

But the key result came more from a match the Bluejays lost than one they won. Reis Park dropped a major decision to Nick Weber, 13-0, giving the Yellowjackets four points. However, had Weber earned a pinfall, Rochester would've scored six points, giving them a one-point victory in the dual.

In Minnesota West's second match of the night, the Bluejays fell to Northwestern College, 36-13. Mitchell, who earned a major decision victory against NWC, tweaked his knee during the contest. He is expected to be re-evaluated today.

In the other match of the competition, NWC defeated Rochester, 33-21.

Minnesota West (6-7) heads to the Briar Cliff Invitational Saturday.

Also, the Bluejays' scheduled dual at Dakota County on Feb. 8 has been canceled.
