MOORHEAD - First responders recovered the body of a woman from the Red River near Memorial Park in downtown Moorhead early Tuesday evening.
A kayaker reported finding the body floating in the river about 6:20 p.m., said Moorhead police Sgt. Scott Kostohryz. He said the body was recovered by authorities at about 6:45 p.m.
Kostohyrz couldn’t say how long the body was in the river.
“The investigation literally started about ten minutes ago,” Kostohyrz said at 7:10 p.m. “So we don’t really have any details, but we’ll be obviously looking for an identity and a reason why this happened and go from there.”
First-responders staged the river recovery from near Usher’s House restaurant and bar.
The body was found about 50 feet north of the north railroad bridge, Kostohyrz said.
Asked about any recent reports of missing people, Kostohyrz said there was no current information, but it was “something we’ll be checking.”
Moorhead police were assisted at the scene by the Moorhead Fire Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Fargo Police Department.
