MERRIFIELD - A 47-year-old Brainerd man was killed and another person injured in a two-vehicle crash at 4:47 p.m. Wednesday in Merrifield, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Both vehicles involved, a passenger car and pickup, came to rest in the west ditch of Crow Wing County Road 3 at the junction with County Road 19. The driver of the passenger car, Troy Sabyan, died at the scene. The driver of the truck, Nett Olstad, 60, Crosslake, was transported by North Memorial Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd with non-life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates Sabyan was traveling west on County Road 19, and entered the intersection on County Road 3. Sabyan’s vehicle was then struck in the driver’s side by the truck being operated by Olstad, which was traveling north on County Road 3. The crash investigation is still ongoing.
