WINDOM -- A preliminary autopsy report has indicated that a brain abnormality -- not influenza -- resulted in the death of a 7-year-old Windom boy.

Waylon Menssen, the son of Maina Simich of Windom and Jonathan Menssen of Jeffers, died Saturday afternoon at Windom Area Hospital. Simich had taken Waylon earlier that day to the emergency room, where his condition worsened. His heart slowed, then stopped, and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

A final cause of death will not be determined until the final autopsy report is available in about three weeks.
