ST. PAUL -- District 22A Rep. Doug Magnus, R-Slayton, has announced that Pipestone, Worthington, Wilmont and Murray County have been selected by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to receive funding for local projects.

They will receive Small Cities Development Program Grants (SCDP) to help rehabilitate area homes and construct rental units.

The City of Pipestone will receive $744,500 to rehabilitate ten owner-occupied houses and construct 18 new rental units.

Murray County will receive $393,500 to rehabilitate 20 owner-occupied housing units. In this instance, DEED's target area is all Region 8 counties (Rock, Nobles, Jackson, Pipestone, Murray, Redwood, Cottonwood, Lincoln, and Lyon) plus Yellow Medicine and Chippewa counties.

Worthington, Wilmont and Round Lake will also receive a total of $609,960 to rehabilitate 34 owner-occupied homes.

Magnus said the financial resources from the program, coupled with both private and public resources, provide rural communities with a comprehensive approach in addressing their needs for activities which include residential and rental rehabilitation, public infrastructure improvements and the revitalization of downtown commercial districts.
