WORTHINGTON — Since 2002, a number of education and workforce agencies, along with regional businesses, have cooperated to provide regional Career Exploration Days for high school students. Today the event has evolved into a highly interactive Career Expo.

Hundreds of business, agency and education volunteers work together to provide this opportunity for high school students, college students, adult basic education students and various southwest Minnesota Workforce Center participants.

Rural Minnesota has incredible career and educational opportunities. This event is an opportunity to help our youth develop the skills and leadership that will keep our economy moving forward with business and education communities working closely together.

Southwest Minnesota Career Expo is designed to increase awareness about current and future career opportunities.

The Expo is a highly interactive career information and exploration event for college and high school students. In 2019, we served over 1,800 students from 30 schools.

This year our Career Expo event will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 28-29, at Minnesota West, Worthington campus and at Southwest State University in Marshall.

Students will spend about 90 minutes in the career exhibit area (which will include student orientation to the exhibits and career information, a college welcome and exhibit exploration).

Here is what some previous exhibitors had to say about the expo:

“Participating in the Career Expo is a fantastic opportunity for both employers and students! We really enjoy being able to share career opportunities and interacting with students.”

“As an employer, you never have an opportunity to engage with local students on such a wide scale. This is a great event to bring awareness about your business and career paths to your future workforce!”

“Working with the Career Expo gives us the chance to see what the future employees are going to be and how to assist them in preparing for entry into the workplace.”
