Kimuyu to speak at PWC gathering
WORTHINGTON -- The Presbyterian Women of the Church will host an informative presentation on "Leadership Crisis in the World, Especially in the Third World," at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Geneva Hall at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 230 Clary St., Worthington. The event is open to all interested members of the local community.
Speaker will be Solomon Kimuyu, of Dallas, Texas, a former member of Campus Crusade for Christ International and recent candidate for political office in the parliament of Kenya. He is also an ordained pastor who is concerned about the welfare of the world's people as they work to access clean drinking water, basic food and shelter.
Kimuyu's presentation will focus on the role of women in society.
Church of Brethren prepares for picnic

WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington Church of the Brethren will have its annual Fourth of July potluck picnic at noon Friday.

Old Westbrook plans ice cream social
WESTBROOK -- An ice cream social will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church, rural Westbrook, and continue throughout the evening.
A program of gospel, country and patriotic music by Ron Kenyon will begin at 8 p.m. Fireworks will be at dusk.

JACKSON -- Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Jackson, is sponsoring Hoops 4 Christ July 23-25.
Presenters will be Stephanie Bet, Trent Sukulski and the Rev. Martin Lucin. There will be three sessions: 8 to 9:30 a.m. for students who have completed sixth through eighth grades; 9:30 to 11 a.m. for third through fifth grades; and 11 a.m. to noon for kindergarten through second grade.

American Reformed has outdoor service
WORTHINGTON -- The American Reformed Church will have "Worship by the Water" at 10 a.m. July 13 at Chautauqua Park, Worthington.
The informal worship will feature a contemporary praise team, special music selections and a meal following.

Peer ministry offers 'Rebuilding' series
MARSHALL -- Beginning Experience of Southwest Minnesota, a peer ministry support group for widowed, divorced and separated people, is offering its Level II "Rebuilding" series for 10 weeks beginning July 28 and continuing until October 6.
The Monday night sessions begin at 7 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Church and "A" streets, Marshall. The first two meetings start at 6:30 p.m. for registration.
The support group is open to people of all denominations. There is a fee to cover the cost of materials. This series is designed for those who are past the initial pain of losing a partner and are working to put their lives back together.

CHAOS coming up at Lutheran school
SIOUX VALLEY -- Sioux Valley Lutheran High School will have a CHAOS event for students entering fifth through eighth grades from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 6.
CHAOS -- Coming Here Around Our Savior -- is a day-camp event with activities and Christian fellowship for middle-school kids from the surrounding area. The program includes tiedyed T-shirts, breakout sessions, games, competitions, skits, food and closing campfire devotions. Breakout sessions will be aimed at a better understanding of the values portrayed in today's media.
