WORTHINGTON – The city of Worthington will officially close all of its playground facilities on Friday, and was in the process Thursday of sectioning off playgrounds and removing nets and hoops from its basketball courts.

City Administrator Steve Robinson said Thursday afternoon that the decisions were made with social distancing and safety issues in mind. The city is unable to properly sanitize its playgrounds, he said, and also can't spend significant amounts of time patrolling playgrounds and basketball courts in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Robinson added that there have been several instances of people not following social distancing guidelines, particularly on basketball courts.

He said that green spaces and trails will remain open, and is hopeful people will get outside and utilize those amenities while continuing to practice social distancing.

Also, effective immediately, the Worthington Liquor Store will be setting a limit of 10 customers in the store at one time. It has also announced temporary store hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; it will be closed Sundays.
