I am writing to help clear up a common misunderstanding about donations to "Hospice" in our area. In Worthington, we have two wonderful, but very different and separate opportunities to donate: Hospice Cottage Inc. and Sanford Hospice (the new name of Sioux Valley Hospice).

When we donate to Hospice Cottage Inc., we are donating to the beautiful building currently being rented by Sanford Hospice. Donations here will help complete construction costs and the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the building. Making a donation to their endowment fund is also an option.

When we donate to Sanford Hospice, we are helping provide Hospice Care ... to those in the cottage. Donations will also assist hospice patients who want to stay in their own homes or who need to live in a nursing home in the Worthington, Jackson and Windom area. Your money is used to help with the high cost of prescription pain medications, the equipment needed, the caring staff, and for our hospice nurses. The care given to hospice patients is done by Sanford Hospice.

Lester and I were very proud to be able to make a donation to Hospice Cottage Inc. toward the construction of the building and living room furnishings. It is a building the whole community can be proud of. And as a long-time Hospice volunteer, I also see how much good our donations to Sanford Hospice do in people's lives. How much their loving care is appreciated by patients at the end of their lives and especially by their families.

I hope this helps to clear up some misunderstandings.
