Consider
administration
District 518 school board members are struggling to finance the excellent school system we have known for years. It is obvious the board does not want to damage the classrooms or destroy the programs and activities that are a source of community pride.
One of the problems the board is facing is the balance of cuts between administration and classrooms. In 2002, the board voted to cut administration and support staff and avoid cuts that hurt students. The board was split on that decision, but the voters liked what they saw and passed the levy.
The board should address the prevailing perception that much can be done before touching classrooms, programs and activities. I would like to encourage the board to seriously reconsider the recommendations made by the board-appointed task force in 2002 that were not accepted at that time. I believe those cuts are still valid. Action should take place in these areas before cuts that affect kids are considered.
