WORTHINGTON - The Worthington City Council on Monday approved engineering for two community growth projects that could bring improvements to the Farmers Market parking lot area at the corner of 10th Street and Second Avenue, as well as the Beach Nook site at Centennial Park.

Sioux Falls, S.D., firm Stockwell Engineering will develop a master plan, concept drawings and a preliminary budget for the two projects at a $13,000 price tag.

Changes to the Farmers Market area could include new landscaping, paving, restrooms or shelters, as well as other elements such as screening or a stage. Overhauls to the Beach Nook would focus on the building itself and the connecting sidewalk.

The projects were identified by the Community Growth Subcommittee as possible areas where the city could see revitalization projects.

Council member Alan Oberloh, also a member of the subcommittee, felt the cost seemed high, but ended up voting for the engineering agreement, saying he wanted to see the projects get done.
