Sioux Falls man sentenced for assault
WORTHINGTON — A Sioux Falls, S.D. man was sentenced to 270 days in jail after assaulting another inmate while incarcerated at the Nobles County Jail in January.
Daurice K. Schoefield, 29, was also sentenced to an 18-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to third-degree assault. Execution of the felony-level conviction is to be stayed for five years of supervised probation.
Entitled to credit for days served and good time, Schoefield had four days remaining to fulfil his jail sentence after Monday’s sentencing in Nobles County District Court.
The charge stemmed from an argument between Schoefield and another inmate at the Nobles County Jail.
According to the complaint, Schoefield punched the victim. He was transported to the Sanford Worthington Medical Center Emergency Room and later to Sioux Falls, where he was treated for a broken bone near his eye.
