Criminal sexual conduct charges filed against 19-year-old Worthington man
WORTHINGTON — A 19-year-old Worthington man faces charges related to having sex with a 15-year-old girl he met on social media.
According to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Nobles County District Court, Eric M. Tema-Coronado faces two counts of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly having sex twice with a 15-year-old girl he met on Facebook.
According to the complaint, the alleged victim initially claimed she had snuck out of her home at 1 a.m. in late January to meet with him, and consensual sex occurred. At a later interview at Child’s Voice in Sioux Falls, S.D., she said Tema-Coronado forced her to have sex on two occasions.
In an interview with law enforcement, Tema-Coronado allegedly admitted to having consensual sex with the female and was aware of her age. According to the complaint, a warrant for a DNA sample was applied for and served Feb. 1.
In the state of Minnesota, a person between ages 13 and 16 can legally consent to sex with someone that is less than four years older than them.
The charges have a maximum penalty of 45 years imprisonment, a $30,000 fine or both.
