WORTHINGTON — A jury trial is planned for next summer in the civil court case wherein a Worthington police officer and a civilian are accused of excessive use of force.

Litigation was first filed in October 2019 on the grounds that officer Mark Riley and ride-along Evan Eggers severely injured Kelvin Rodriguez during his January 2019 arrest.

The case is currently in discovery, meaning that both parties are investigating the facts of the case, collecting evidence and requesting relevant documents.

A five-day jury trial is set to begin August 23, 2021.
