WORTHINGTON — A Worthington resident was arrested Sunday after hospital staff reported that a pregnant teenager had come to Sanford Worthington Medical Center for medical care, with a man believed to be the baby's much-older father.

Worthington police spoke with the man, Luis Sapon-Sapon, 32, who initially told officers he was much younger than his actual age. Sapon-Sapon allegedly said he and the mother were dating and that he had stopped their sexual relationship two months ago when he found out she was a minor, adding that he was probably the father of the child.

The teen reportedly told police she had lied about her age, telling Sapon-Sapon she was 18, and that he had not known she was underage until Sunday night, when he heard her tell the nurses her age. She also reported having continued their sexual relationship until three weeks ago.

Sapon-Sapon was arrested for third-degree criminal sexual conduct, where the victim is between 13 and 15 and the actor is more than 24 months older, and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and/or a fine of $30,000.

He was released from Nobles County Jail Monday after posting $10,000 of conditional bail.
