PIPESTONE — A Pipestone County Jail corrections officer reported pain in the head and face following an altercation with an inmate Nov. 4, for which the inmate is now facing criminal charges.
Carlton Williams Sr., 31, of Flandreau, South Dakota, was in custody at Pipestone County Jail and allegedly refused to change out of his street clothes into a jail uniform. When jail staff attempted to make him comply, Williams reportedly kicked a corrections officer in the face, causing a swollen jaw and a concussion.
Williams was charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, a felony that carries a maximum possible sentence of two years in prison and/or a $4,000 fine. If convicted, Williams will be sentenced based on criminal history.
He was released from Pipestone County Jail Friday after posting non-cash bond. His initial court appearance was Tuesday afternoon.
