WORTHINGTON ― A Sibley, Iowa resident received his sentence Wednesday for a June assault at an Adrian residence.

Cornell McBride, 46, was arrested when a victim reported that they had been assaulted, causing a laceration to the face and a swollen eye. McBride was charged with two counts of felony domestic assault, third-degree property damage and interfering with a 9-1-1 call. He pleaded guilty to the first charge, and the others were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

He appeared in court Wednesday to receive his sentence for felony domestic assault.

Fifth Judicial District Judge Terry Vajgrt sentenced McBride to 21 months in prison, with a stay of execution, meaning that if he successfully abides by the terms of supervised probation for five years, he will not be required to serve his prison sentence.

McBride was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
