WORTHINGTON — A Worthington resident is set to appear in court Monday on charges that he allegedly molested a child on multiple occasions while they lived in the same home.
During a forensic interview, the victim, now 14, said that Rafael Estrada Sanchez, 45, had touched them inappropriately when they were 9 or 10. This reportedly happened several times while Estrada Sanchez was part of the victim's life.
The victim also said that Estrada Sanchez had shown them a pornographic video depicting sexual intercourse. After the video ended, Estrada Sanchez then "told (the victim) not to tell anyone or else he would go to jail," according to the criminal complaint.
When police questioned him about the accusation, Estrada Sanchez told officers that he and the victim had lived together at that time because he had been in a romantic relationship with someone in the victim's family. The relationship has since ended, so they do not share a home anymore. He denied all of the victim's claims, adding that he had never been left alone with the victim.
Estrada Sanchez was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and distributing material that relates/describes sexual conduct to a child. Both are felony offenses, and the criminal sexual conduct charge carries a maximum possible sentence of 25 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine. If convicted, Estrada Sanchez will be sentenced based on criminal history.
Because he received a court summons rather than being arrested, Estrada Sanchez does not have a mugshot.
