MOUNTAIN LAKE — A 34-year-old Mountain Lake man is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and terroristic threats, both felonies, in connection with a Nov. 7 incident in Mountain Lake. A third charge of misdemeanor domestic assault was also made.
Jose Humberto Pesqueda Sanchez, 34, is accused of the crimes following an altercation with a victim at a residence in Mountain Lake.
According to the criminal complaint, Pesqueda Sanchez and a victim began arguing when he would not let her gather belongings and leave the residence.
The responding officer was told by the victim that Pesqueda Sanchez pulled a knife and threatened to kill her. When the officer returned to the scene, a significant amount of blood was reportedly seen on the front porch. The officer entered the residence believing someone was injured, and found Pesqueda Sanchez laying on the couch with blood on his face.
The officer then spoke to the victim, who stated she had recorded the situation on her phone, but that Pesqueda Sanchez hid the phone outside. Once recovered, the audio recording was played and Pesqueda Sanchez reportedly could be heard multiple times asking for his keys and stating he was going to kill the victim.
The victim stated she had taken his keys because he had been drinking. This led to a verbal argument, followed by Pesqueda Sanchez allegedly grabbing a knife and placing it on the table between himself and the victim. The victim was scared, and said Pesqueda Sanchez threatened to kill her prior to grabbing the knife.
The victim was able to leave the home, and another individual came to help the victim pack her belongings. At this time, it was reported that Pesqueda Sanchez and the individual got into an argument and hit each other.
If convicted, Pesqueda Sanchez faces a maximum seven years in prison and/or a $14,000 fine on the second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon charge, five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine on the terroristic threats charge and 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine on the domestic assault charge.
