Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: 5 p.m. Friday, Iowa 9 and North Third Avenue, Rock Rapids, Iowa. A 1974 Caterpillar wheeloader/payloader owned and operated by Harlan Classen was northbound crossing Iowa 9. The loader lost power while crossing the highway, causing the steering and brakes to fail. It continued north until it struck a utility box and light pole owned by Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities. The estimated cost of repairs to the utility box is $25,000. The loader was not damaged.
