ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa - The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle crash reported at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the intersection of South Greene Street and South Fifth Avenue. A 2002 Ford Expedition operated by Anita Soodsma, 43, of Doon, Iowa, was traveling westbound when its rear passenger side was struck by a 2013 Ford Fusion operated by Amy Hildring, 33, of Larchwood, Iowa, that was traveling southbound, with the impact causing the Expedition to spin and tip onto its driver’s side. Soodsma was transported by the Lyon County Ambulance to Sanford Rock Rapids Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, while her passenger, Jack Soodsma, was also transported for possible injuries. Two passengers of the Fusion were transported via personal vehicle for possible injuries. The Expedition sustained approximately $5,000 in damage; the Fusion had about $7,000 in damage. Soodsma was cited for failure to yield on the right at an uncontrolled intersection.
