Crashes

Minnesota State Patrol: 2:07 a.m. Saturday, U.S. 71 near milepost 33, Cottonwood County. A 2016 Ford Expedition operated by Wayne Lundgren, 68, of Sioux City, Iowa was traveling southbound and struck a deer that ran in front of it. Lundgren was taken by Windom Ambulance to Windom Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

WPD: 8:28 p.m. Saturday, 1400 block of North Burlington Avenue.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: 1:53 a.m. Sunday, 1200 block of U.S. 75, Rock Rapids, Iowa. A 2001 Chevrolet Traverse operated by Kyle Statema, 39, struck a deer that entered the roadway. The vehicle sustained approximately $4,000 in damages. Statema was cited for failure to have a valid driver’s license.

WPD: assault, 6:35 p.m. Friday, 1100 block of Diagonal Road.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: Dakota Strubbe, 19, of Sheldon, Iowa was arrested Friday following a traffic stop near Bradley Street and Iowa 9 in Rock Rapids and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance; she was also cited for expired registration. Also arrested was Dakota Clark, 19, of Sheldon, who was charged with possession of a controlled substance and cited for driving while suspended. Another passenger, Lawrence Ruotolo Jr., 18, of Sheldon, was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. All three were transported to the Lyon County Jail.
