ST. PAUL -- An election to fill the vacancy left by the death of Minnesota state Sen. Gary Kubly will be April 10.
Gov. Mark Dayton ordered the election Wednesday, shortly after Kubly's funeral ended in Granite Falls.
If a primary election is needed, it will be March 27.
The election is in Senate District 20, which includes all or parts of Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac Qui Parle, Lincoln, Renville, Swift and Yellow Medicine counties.
People interested in running for the seat have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to file paperwork in the secretary of state's office or at their local county auditor's office.

The district is the same as Kubly represented, but new districts become effective for the Nov. 6 election.
Kubly died Friday after suffering from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Former state Sen. Gary DeCramer, who also served near the area Kubly served, died Wednesday while on a trip to Morris.
In recent years, DeCramer, 67, lived in the Twin City suburb of Mendota Heights. When he was in the Senate, from 1983 to 1992, he lived in western Minnesota.
After leaving the Senate, DeCramer was Southwest State University interim president, then went on to the University of Minnesota, where he worked until his death.
DeCramer, like Kubly, was a Democratic-Farmer-Laborite.
