District 518 school board bumps members' salaries
WORTHINGTON — Independent School District 518’s Board of Education will see little change in 2020.
During a special reorganizational school board meeting Monday morning the board approved its officers, which mirror last year’s slate: chairperson Brad Shaffer; vice chairperson Lori Dudley; treasurer Linden Olson; clerk Steve Schnieder; and directors Joel Lorenz, Mike Harberts and Adam Blume.
Board members unanimously approved a pay increase of approximately $100 for each of their positions. Board members’ annual salaries include: Shaffer, $3,450; Dudley, $3,000; Steve Schnieder, $3,200; Linden Olson, $3,200; Lorenz, Harberts and Blume, $2,900. The annual salaries have increased slightly each year or every other year since 2009, reflecting an approximately $500 total raise over the past decade.
Harberts, who sat on the committee that considered board members’ annual salaries, said the committee felt it appropriate to continue the bump in compensation to stay current.
Monday’s action was typical for the school board, which has members serve an office for two years before making adjustments. If current practice continues, the board will reconsider officer positions in early 2021.
More significant adjustments may be coming to the board in 2021, as four of the seven members’ terms are set to expire later this year. Terms set to expire Dec. 31, 2020 include those of Shaffer, Lorenz, Olson and Schnieder.
The filing date for school board candidates is July 28 through Aug. 11, 2020.
