WORTHINGTON — The Worthington High School Knowledge Bowl team of Worthington 1 qualified for the 2019 state Knowledge Bowl tournament by virtue of their second-place finish at the Region 8 Knowledge Bowl competition in Marshall on March 12.

In Class AA competition on April 10 and 11 at Cragun’s Resort, Brainerd, the WHS team (consisting of seniors Jack Johnson, Davis Moore and Sean Souksavath, plus juniors A.J. Wass and Kalen Brands) finished in 16th place with 104 points. In all, 24 teams competed in the Class AA division. Although the Prior Lake team, scoring 136.5 points, was the tournament champion, the WHS qualifiers finished ahead of two Northfield teams, two Duluth teams, and the teams from Chaska, Hutchinson and Hibbing.

It was the second consecutive year that Worthington 1 (with returnees Johnson, Moore, Souksavath and Wass) qualified for and competed at the state Knowledge Bowl tournament.
