Ellsworth man killed in weekend drowning

ROCK VALLEY, Iowa — An Ellsworth man died Saturday in a drowning incident at River's Bend Campground in Rock Valley, Iowa.

According to a press release received Monday morning from the Rock Valley Police Department, Anthony Boyenga, 31, was swimming with his children around 3 p.m. Saturday when he went under the water and could not be located.

Emergency first responders, which included the Sioux County Dive Team, searched for Boyenga. Poor water clarity with near zero visibility reportedly hampered efforts. Boyenga was found at approximately 3:50 p.m. — approximately 47 minutes after the 911 call was received.

Resuscitation efforts on the scene were unsuccessful.

The Rock Valley Police Department was assisted by the Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance, Sioux County Sheriff's Office, Sioux County Dive Team, Sioux County Conservation and Avera Care Flight, as well as countless bystanders that volunteered their efforts.

A GoFundMe page was created Sunday for financial assistance to help support his wife Megan, and five children. More than $5,700 had been raised by Monday morning.
