ELLSWORTH - The Ellsworth Public Schools weight room is now open to the public.
For a monthly membership fee, members of the public can utilize the school’s weight room from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
According to Ellsworth Superintendent John Willey, the school opted to open its facility to the public because, with no other functioning gym in the community, it was receiving requests from the public.
“We decided to move toward a more organized use of the facility where someone is actually there supervising,” Willey said.
The weight room, which features various weight machines and free weights, opened for public use Oct. 1. Willey said usage has been picking up now that ellipticals and treadmills have been ordered.
