On Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m., the Nobles County Historical Society is inviting the residents of Nobles County to a potluck meal at Pioneer Village in connection with its 73rd annual meeting.
The Society seeks to honor residents 100 years or older. If anyone knows someone who is 100, or will be 100 in 2006, contact Roxann Polzine at the Nobles County Historical Society Museum at 376-4431 or 370-4461. There will be a small program recognizing these persons. Hardy Rickbeil will be the featured speaker.
The Nobles County Historical Society was an outgrowth of an Old Settlers Picnic that took place in the Chautauqua Pavilion on Sept. 10, 1933. Plans were soon under way to preserve and display articles and preserve papers of historic interest and value. Space was granted in the courthouse to store and display a few small articles. Others were stored in various places throughout the county to awaitt a more permanent home. The historical society now has a small space for storage and research in the lower level of the War Memorial Building, which houses the Nobles County Library, and has a Historic Pioneer Village located west of the fairgrounds.
