RUSHMORE - The Rushmore and Bigelow Fire Departments were paged at 9:16 p.m. Thursday to provide mutual aid for a fire in the 19000 block of 310th Street in Little Rock Township.
The Little Rock, Iowa, Fire Department was first paged to the scene of the fire. Joe Schilling, Little Rock Fire Chief, said a storage building was completely engulfed when they arrived at approximately 8:47 p.m. Thursday.
“The building was down … and there were spot fires starting by some buildings and by the grove,” Schilling said.
Residents on the site were home at the time the fire was reported and were not injured.
Schilling said winds blew embers from the fire, resulting in smaller fires being created. His department was on the scene for approximately two hours. Rushmore and Bigelow fire departments helped with supplying water, and Schilling said they used about 8,000 gallons of water to battle the blaze.
