DETROIT LAKES - Five people were injured Sunday when a go-cart veered into a crowd watching the Water Carnival Parade in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Lyle Durr, 63, a member of the El Zagal Shrine in Fargo, said he and four other club members were driving go-carts up and down the parade route. He said he had just let off the accelerator when the engine suddenly revved up.
"It had already slowed down, and then for some reason it just revved up," he said by phone Sunday night.
The go-cart veered out of control and struck parade watchers sitting on the curb, according to a news release from Detroit Lakes Police Chief Kelvin Keena.
One adult and four children received immediate medical attention from police officers and emergency medical personnel on the scene.

The five victims were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes for examination and treatment of mostly minor injuries, the release said.
There didn't appear to be any mechanical defect with the go-cart, and there was no indication that Durr was impaired, the release said.
Durr said he was thankful that it appeared no one was seriously injured.
"I'm just still worried about how the kids are doing, but from what they told us in the emergency room, it didn't appear the injuries were serious, thank God," he said. "I'm just sorry it happened at all."
Durr said he can't recall a similar accident happening during a parade in which club members drove their go-carts.
The parade resumed shortly after the accident, which happened at 2:37 p.m. on West Lake Drive near Summit Avenue.
