Food safety certification offered

MARSHALL -- University of Minnesota Extension is offering two courses to help food service establishments meet the educational requirement for certified food managers.

MARSHALL -- University of Minnesota Extension is offering two courses to help food service establishments meet the educational requirement for certified food managers.

The initial certification course, ServSafe, will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the SW/WC Service Cooperatives in Marshall. Participants must attend the entire session to be eligible to take the certification exam at 4:30 p.m. This course includes information about safe food preparation, handling, sanitation and prevention of foodborne illnesses. Registration is required by Oct. 3.

Certification renewal for food managers will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 16 at the SW/WC Service Cooperatives in Marshall. Certified food managers need four hours of continuing education credits within three years of becoming certified. Registration is due by Oct. 2.
