JACKSON — A former Jackson County Central student accused of threatening the lives of other JCC students and staff in a statement made while playing an online video game filed a guilty plea Tuesday in Jackson County District Court.
Jaleel De’Aires Carr, 20, signed a plea petition with the court indicating his desire to plead guilty to disorderly conduct. That's amended from a threats of violence charge, which was filed after other students reported that Carr told them that he planned to “shoot up the school” in February 2018.
The threat initiated an immediate response from law enforcement and school officials. Carr was taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and kept from district property on the day he warned he’d carry out his threat.
The threat resulted in JCC personnel alerting parents of the potential danger. In his signed plea petition, Carr acknowledges that his actions “caused alarm to others.”
If sentenced in accordance with the plea agreement, Carr will serve one year on supervised probation, be required to complete between a 15- and 45-day sentence (similar to community service), pay a fine to be determined by the court and write an apology letter to the school.
