PRIMGHAR, Iowa -- The O'Brien County Sheriff's Office and the Sutherland Police Department have arrested four people in connection to a July burglary at a Sutherland convenience store, according to a news release.
Authorities stated the offenders broke a window in the store to gain entry at approximately 4:45 a.m. July 17. Two employees who had just arrived to work saw the offenders grab beer and cigarettes before running from the store.
During the course of the investigation, authorities learned two of the suspects allegedly stole a vehicle from a Sutherland residence following the burglary, then drove it to where they were camping in Cherokee County and into the Little Sioux River in an attempt to dispose of the stolen car.
Matthew Sparks and Douglas Mackey, both 17 years old and both of Cherokee, Iowa, were each charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft. Arrest warrants were issued for 20-year-old Travis Schwidder, Ankeny, Iowa, and Anthony Lucas, 23, of Sheldon, Iowa.
Schwidder was arrested in Polk County in late August, and Lucas turned himself in Sept. 5.
