FULDA -- The Fulda Heritage Society is hosting a fundraiser and open house on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fulda Depot.
Heritage Society member Virginia Anderson said the goal is to raise funds for future projects, including a plaque for the caboose, repainting and replacing the depot windows.
The event's purpose is to "preserve the importance of the trains," Anderson said.
"Without (the trains) the community wouldn't be here," she added.
Anderson predicted good weather for the fundraiser and said kids would enjoy touring the caboose. Depot tours are typically offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, Anderson said.

Jim Sitton, who operates an antique shop inside the depot and conducts the tours, said a fire engine and antique tractors will also be on display Sunday.
The intent of the Heritage Society is to "make sure younger people know history," Anderson said. "It's also a good way to preserve family items."
For his part, Sitton said he enjoys seeing people learn about the history of the community.
A free-will donation lunch will be served. Menu items include hot dogs, chips, bars, coffee and other drinks.
The depot is located at 105 Front St. W. in Fulda. For more information, call (507) 425-2201.
