Cheniqua Johnson, Max Kaufman to represent DFL in 22B, 22A House races

SLAYTON — The matchups for the area’s Minnesota House elections are set.

Worthington’s Cheniqua Johnson (District 22B) and Fulda’s Maxwell Kaufman (22A) were endorsed Thursday night by the District 22 DFL.

Johnson, a 2013 graduate of Worthington High School, gave a commencement address at the University of Minnesota in May. The 22-year-old has already served as a legislative intern for the U.S Senate, policy intern for Gov. Mark Dayton and has worked as a staff assistant/intern coordinator for U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison since January.

Kaufman, a Fulda native and also a University of Minnesota graduate, currently works as a development planner at the Southwest Regional Development Commission. From 2015 to 2016, he spent nine months in India, doing research focused on government efficiency.

Johnson will face seven-term Rep. Rod Hamilton, R-Mountain Lake, while Kaufman will see Rep. Joe Schomacker, R- Luverne.
