Grow operation busted in George

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- A 32-year-old George, Iowa man is in jail after a search warrant at his rented home turned up a marijuana grow operation and methamphetamine precursors.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- A 32-year-old George, Iowa man is in jail after a search warrant at his rented home turned up a marijuana grow operation and methamphetamine precursors.

Casey Roberts was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, child endangerment, manufacture of a controlled substance-marijuana and manufacture of a controlled substance-methamphetamine.

According to a release from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, deputies, DNR law enforcement and the Iowa State Patrol executed a search warrant at 414 West Minnesota Ave on Saturday.

During the search, authorities discovered an indoor marijuana grow operation had been established in the basement of the house. Roberts had attempted to cultivate marijuana using heat lamps, pots and timers.

In the basement and in attached garage, authorities found items commonly used to manufacture meth. The Lyon County Clandestine Lab Team was called in to identify, analyze and handle the chemicals and equipment.

After it was determined that Robert's 9-month-old daughter resided in the home, child endangerment charges were filed for knowingly permitting a child to reside in a house where meth producing materials are kept.
