We were disappointed last week when Rep. Rod Hamilton voted "no" to improving the health of Minnesotans. The Freedom to Breathe Act would ensure that all employees would have the same equal right to breathe safe air, free of secondhand smoke, at work.

In 1984, we made the decision to stop selling tobacco at the pharmacy. It didn't make sense to sell what would kill you in the front of the store, and then sell what would cure you back at the pharmacy. We did it because it was the right thing to do.

Now it's Rep. Hamilton's turn to do the same. State polls as well as local polls in our county show broad support for smoke-free workplace law. At the next hearing, Rep. Hamilton needs to vote to protect every Minnesotan's health.
