HERON LAKE - The Heron Lake Watershed District will host a Best Management Practices tour from 9 to 11 a.m. April 21 for attendees to visit a streambank stabilization project along Okabena Creek, a bioretention basin west of Graham Lakes and a biodetention basin on the west side of Fulda Lakes.
Participants are asked to meet on the west side of the Brewster City Park to carpool for the guided tour. Registration is requested by calling (507) 793-2462 or emailing jan.voit@mysmbs.com .
In 2013, the HLWD received funding from the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund to install practices in Nobles, Jackson and Murray counties. Over the past three years, five projects were implemented. The purpose of the projects was to reduce sediment and nutrient loads into streams and lakes within the HLWD.
