LITTLE ROCK, Iowa -- According to information from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, authorities were informed of a hog theft in progress early Wednesday morning northwest of Little Rock. With the help of concerned citizens, the subjects were followed until law enforcement could stop the vehicles at the intersection of A34 and Lily Avenue.
Arrested at the scene were two individuals -- Eric Robert Freihage, 23, of Logan, Iowa, and Jonathan Charles Wensel, 20, of Pisgah, Iowa. It was determined the subjects had the allegedly planned to steal hogs from a confinement and load them into a trailer they were pulling. During a search of their vehicle, deputies discovered burglary tools and a small amount of marijuana.
Freihage, who was driving, was charged with two counts of failure to stop at stop signs, no registration and no insurance. He was also charged criminally with possession of burglary tools, third-degree burglary, driving while revoked and possession of a controlled substance.
Wensel was charged with possession of burglary tools and third-degree burglary. He was released on a $5,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.
