WADENA - Schades of Green in downtown Wadena is a "green" business that recycles home furnishings, antiques and collectibles.
They sell quality, pre-owned furniture at an affordable price, according to owners Rita Glebe and Shannon Schey. They also sell new locally handmade furniture, home decor, quilts made by Glebe and pillows made from recycled linens and buttons.
The mother and daughter opened the store next to the Cyber Cafe May 18 and are surprised by the response in their first week of business.
"It's really good," Schey, Glebe's daughter, said. "It's been a lot busier than we thought."
She even opened the store on a Monday, although they're usually closed that day, because some customers were interested in shopping while she was restocking, Schey said. In only their second week of business, she's had to bring a lot more stuff in.

"Everybody seems to be happier finding good deals," she said. "They like that."
The ladies are both new at owning their own business and are learning as they go. The business is an outgrowth of a garage sale Schey used to hold regularly on U.S. Highway 71 over the last 10 years, she said. Then she started collecting furniture over the year and holding a week-long sale.
"That's kind of how it all came about," Schey said.
The family has always been interested in green living, Glebe said.
"I hate throwing stuff away that somebody else can use," she said.
Glebe makes quilts from recycled fabrics. She lives north of Clarissa and Schey lives in Wadena.
Together, Schey and her husband, Jim, have five children, she said. Skylar and Jack are both 12, Skyler is 9, Lily is 2 and Rylee is 1. The older kids are a big help at the store, she said.
The store will be getting a sign put up once work on the front of the building is finished, Schey said. They've already done a lot of work inside the building painting the previously black walls and tearing down a wall.

Schades of Green is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
