LAKEFIELD -- Three rural Lakefield teenagers were transported to Sioux Falls, S.D., with injuries following a one-vehicle rollover accident Monday in Hunter Township.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office was dispatched at approximately 3:20 p.m. to the crash, which happened on 810th Street just west of 490th Avenue. Reports prior to deputies arriving at the scene described three people being ejected from the vehicle, with one person pinned beneath the vehicle.
Kody Burmeister, 16, along with Jayden Montz and Alyssa Paulson, both 15, were all transported to Jackson Sanford Hospital for initial treatment. Two victims were airlifted and the third transported by ground ambulance, all to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, according to a sheriff's office press release.
The driver, Burmeister, was westbound on 810th Street in a 1988 Ford pickup, the press release stated. The vehicle entered the north ditch and rolled over several times before ending up in a cornfield.
Assisting at the scene were the Minnesota State Patrol, Jackson Fire and Ambulance Service and Lakefield Ambulance Service. The accident remains under investigation.
