Kindergarten Round-Up will be March 26 at Prairie Elementary. There are three separate times that we hope will work for families: 8:30 to 10 a.m., noon to 1:30 p.m., and 5:30-7 p.m.
Kindergarten Round-Up is a good opportunity for families to tour the school and meet some of the wonderful and knowledgeable staff. Many times this is the first time for parents to come into the building, and their first thought is that the building is so big and my child will get lost. Yes, Prairie Elementary is a big school, but because the building is divided into three separate houses, each house creates its own sense of community. All of the kindergartners are together in one house closest to the front of the building. The teachers walk the students to other parts of the building where they need to attend music, library, computer, physical education, as well as to eat lunch. The teachers also walk students to the bus at the end of the day. During recess time, the kindergartners are supervised by four or more adults. We provide the safest environment possible for all of the students at Prairie Elementary while allowing them to learn and play.
We are looking forward to our fourth year of all-day, every-day kindergarten in 2007-2008. This has been a wonderful program that has provided more time for reading, writing, math, science, and social experiences for our kindergartners. Research tells us that with early interventions, students make the greatest gains. Our kindergartners make tremendous gains each year. Early Childhood programs such as preschool and kindergarten greatly benefit students, providing a solid educational foundation and ensuring success throughout their entire academic career.
Our kindergarten students have opportunities to make real-world curriculum connections on field trips every year. As we learn about seasons, health, and life cycles of plants and animals, we travel to an apple orchard, a fun farm, and a dairy farm.
We invite and encourage parents to attend Kindergarten Round-Up with their future kindergarten child. We will be dividing the children into smaller groups with the kindergarten teachers, enjoying activities together, and becoming familiar with the kindergarten atmosphere. Parents will have a presentation by the staff and an opportunity to ask questions.
