Late free throw by Janssen enough for Pipestone Area

JACKSON -- David Janssen scored 15 points, and hit a free throw with 36 seconds left to give the Arrows a 57-56 victory Friday against Jackson County Central in boys' basketball.

JCC (6-10) had a pair of shots in the final five seconds to win the game, but the final one spun in and out of the hoop, denying the victory.

Luke Tinklenberg added 13 to pace the Arrows.

Brock Bisaillon led JCC with 14 points. Scott Benson added 12.

JCC visits Estherville-LC (Iowa) today.

REDWOOD FALLS -- In a game that was close all the way, the Redwood Valley Cardinals outscored Luverne by four points in overtime to earn a key Southwest Conference victory.

Aaron Marks (20), Tyler Pendleton (16), Mike Felt (13) and Dan Bonebright (10) were Redwood's leading scorers.

Marc Boelman led Luverne with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Weston Sawtelle, Derek Boeve and Jake Clark scored 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Luverne (6-3, 13-5) hosts West Central (S.D.) tonight.

EDGERTON -- Tied at 58 with just over three minutes to go, Hills-Beaver Creek went on a 7-2 run to finish the contest and hold off Edgerton.

Halden Van Wyhe tallied 24 points for the Patriots (9-9), including 6-of-6 free-throw shooting in the final minute. Aaron Esselink added 14 points and Cody Rozeboom had 13.

Kevin Vander Schaaf led Edgerton (1-10, 2-14) with 19 points Trey Manitz had 18.

Edgerton plays Canby at SMSU in Marshall today.

WESTBROOK -- Fulda nearly earned its first victory of the season, but Westbrook-Walnut Grove rallied in the second half to prevail over the Raiders.

W-WG made 6-of-8 free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.

Prestin Parker paced the Chargers with 18 points, while Jace Jarmer (10 rebounds) and Jonathan Kells each scored 12 points.

Tyler Goedtke totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Raiders, while David Crowley and Alex Hein scored 13 and 12 respective points.

W-WG (5-6, 8-8) hosts Red Rock Central Thursday, while Fulda (0-11, 0-15) hosts Hills-Beaver Creek the same night.

ROUND LAKE -- Murray County Central received 29 points from Paul Counter as the Rebels defeated Round Lake-Brewster.

Derik Johnson scored 20 points and Brian Everson tallied 15 points for the Rebels (6-5, 7-6), who visit Windom Tuesday.

Lon Eichenberger led RL-B with 23 points, while Cole Baumgard (12) and Riley Van Westen (10) also scored in double figures, and Tim Haberman hauled in 10 rebounds.

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Recording his seventh triple-double of the season, Cody Schilling led the Ellsworth Panthers to a victory over Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.

Schilling scored 36 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and passed out 10 assists to lead the Panthers.

Aaron Van Der Stoep and Josh Nolte scored 16 and 15 respective points for Ellsworth (11-0, 17-1), which visits Remsen-St. Mary's today.

Barrett Herrig scored 18 points and ripped down 17 rebounds to lead ML/B-O, while Taylor Adrian netted 11 points.

EDGERTON -- Hitting their first eight shots, including five 3-pointers, the Southwest Christian Eagles jumped out to a quick lead and cruised past Red Rock Central.

SWC outrebounded RRC, 33-22, and shot 54 percent from the field.

Karl Vander Lugt led SWC with 16 points, while Mike Vander Veen and Trent Ryswyk scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Alex Huisken (five steals) and Tyler Mouw (seven rebounds) charted 12 and 10 respective points, while Ryan Pronk tallied 10 assists, four points and three steals.

Kyle Huls topped RRC with 20 points and seven rebounds, and Josh Fredrickson scored 13 points.

LAKE PARK, Iowa -- Holding Sentral-Fenton to four first-quarter points, the Harris-Lake Park Wolves gained a key Cornbelt Conference victory.

H-LP (11-3, 11-6) is now a half-game behind S-F (12-3) in the league standings.

Nate Brueggeman and Ryan Rowe (five rebounds) each scored 11 points to lead the Wolves, while Nick Sheridan grabbed six boards.

Travis Nissen charted five assists and went 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes to help seal the victory for H-LP, which hosts Round Lake-Brewster Monday.

SHELDON, Iowa -- For the second time this season, the Emmetsburg E-Hawks posted a close victory over Sheldon in Lakes Conference action.

In a see-saw battle that had numerous lead changes, the host Orabs held a three-point lead with three minutes remaining, but the E-Hawks (12-0, 16-1) prevailed down the stretch.

Stephen Kirshbaum scored 26 points for Sheldon (10-2, 15-2), while Matt DeJong contributed 11 points and seven rebounds.

Mike Bisenius (12), Matt Geelan (10) and Nate Kliegl (10) paced a balanced E-Hawk scoring attack.
