To the Editor:

Yes, police departments -- not just Red Wing but all across the nation -- would like it if citizens locked up bikes or even scooters from those out to steal them due to fuel prices.

More and more people are going to bicycles than ever before. So many of you may be seeing more bike thefts than ever before.

There are those who feel they have the right to steal bikes from others who work hard for them. There are bicycles worth over a thousand dollars.

I wrote a letter to the editor about the first I had stolen. Well, the police found it, but the rear end looked like a car had drove over it.

I have had another two mountain bikes stolen from where I live. The first is a Roadmaster frame -- orange with a black fork, tape around the handle grips and wheels painted orange. Its nickname some would say is The Milwaukee Road. The last one stolen on Saturday night was a gold Murray Frame Roadmaster with a black rack and coffee stickers. If anyone has seen them or other stolen bicycles, call the police at (651) 385-3155 or ask for officer No. 227; he found my first one. Yes, I renovate bikes for the Epilepsy Foundation and hope to have four or five for them next pickup date.
