WORTHINGTON — Minnesota West Community and Technical College is offering a “College Is For Me” program to those who will be in the first generation of their families to have an opportunity for college in June at its Worthington and Granite Falls campuses.
The event is free, and first-generation students and English language learners of all ages with a high school diploma or GED are encouraged to sign up.
The one-week Worthington program will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from June 5-9. Lunch will be provided
The two-week Granite Falls program will be from 8:30 to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from June 5-9 and June 12-16. Lunch will be provided.
The "College is for Me" program at Minnesota West focuses on key strategies, resources and services at the college level, showing where programs are located, assisting with developing students’ academic writing skills and meeting staff.

By providing a better understanding of college at Minnesota West, the school hopes to offer the first steps that support students of all backgrounds in their college goals, preparing first-generation families and English language learners to thrive in the structure of a college environment.
The students will participate in career exploration, campus services, resources and financial aid while becoming better acquainted with the Minnesota West staff. Students will also take a free one-credit freshman seminar course and have assistance in developing their academic writing skills.
Granite Falls program will work with Adult Basic Education on reading, writing and math skills.
The "College is for Me" program is offered free of cost and is limited to 15 students.
