SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from now until 11 p.m. tonight, with a blizzard warning to follow from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday, for Nobles and Jackson counties in Minnesota and Dickinson County in Iowa.

Snow and blowing snow with mixed precipitation is expected, with total snow accumulations of up to 2 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Winds will gust as high as 55 miles per hour.

People should plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute, and strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

The National Weather Service encouraged people to slow down and travel cautiously.

Murray, Cottonwood and Pipestone counties

A winter weather advisory will be in effect until 7 p.m. Friday.

During this time, mixed precipitation is expected. Total snow accumulations will be up to one inch, and ice accumulations around a quarter inch. Winds will gust as high as 40 miles per hour.

A blizzard warning will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.
