WORTHINGTON — Even though it is summer, our Worthington High School Athletic Department is closing the chapter on the final sporting events for the spring of 2022.

Our WHS Trojans Track members did extremely well at the recently held Minnesota State Track Meet in St. Michael-Albertville. Our young athletes and dedicated coaches represented District 518 and our communities with pride.

With an eye to the future, our coaching staff is continuing to work with our athletes in getting them into the WHS Weight Room to work on their speed and strength. The time spent together with Mr. Grimmius will pay off large dividends in the future.

Our WHS Football staff is planning on having two different football clinics this summer. The first clinic is from 6 to 8 p.m. July 27 for youths going into third through sixth grade. Cost is only $5 per student.

They will learn the basics of how to hold a football, run with a football, and how to catch a tossed football. There will be a game at the end of the night, and parents are welcome to attend and watch their youth enjoy a fun evening of learning.

The second football clinic is from 6 to 8 p.m. July 25 and 26 on Trojan Field for boys and girls going into seventh or eighth grade. This camp is free to youth that have experience or are new to the game. This clinic will help get your youth ready for the upcoming fall season.

Both clinics will have our Trojan Football team members assisting our coaching staff.

Our gymnastics program continues to host quarterly classes with District 518 Community Education, including the summer months. The WHS Gymnastics team will attend at least one summer camp to work on their skills, conditioning and new techniques.

Our District 518 Activities Department is working on a new initiative to purchase and develop a new video board and system for the school district. This interactive video board will have information about sports, fine arts programs, academic activities (FFA, Knowledge Bowl, Robotics, Culinary, BPA, FCCLA, HOSA, and more), yearbooks, and a history of District 518 Schools.

This program is interactive and will be housed in the main lobby of WHS, but can be accessible via Internet to search past records, photos and video clips. The possibilities are endless, and we are excited about bringing this project to life.

We collaborate with many different activities that happen during the summer months. Our Spirit of Worthington Trojan Marching Band has been using the gym and Trojan Field during band camp. We work with the Worthington Area YMCA and Optimists Club to bring the summer track event for our younger youths who are interested in track activities. Our Trojan Track members will help the YMCA for this event on Aug. 1 at Trojan Field.

Be looking for more information closer to the end of July detailing our fall kick-off event for the new school year. This event will be a chance to get information about the upcoming season on Aug. 9, complete the necessary paperwork, and allow time to meet with coaches and teammates.

We look forward to another successful school year of all District 518 activities!
