Crashes

Minnesota State Patrol: three-vehicle crash with injuries, 10:48 a.m. Saturday, U.S. 71, three miles north of Windom. Both Jack Harold Schaffer, 76, Windom, who was driving a 1998 Buick Park Avenue, and Kevin Michael Carr, 26, of Moorhead, who was driving a 2020 Ford Fusion, were northbound on U.S. 71 when they collided, sending the Fusion into a southbound 2022 Kenworth Tractor driven by Donald Arthur Jahr, 53, of Jamestown, Tennessee. Shaffer, who was wearing his seatbelt, received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Windom Area Health. Carr and Jahr, both of whom were also wearing their seatbelts, were not injured. The Fusion’s airbag did deploy. The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Police, Windom Fire Department and Windom Ambulance assisted at the scene.

NCSO: hit-and-run, 11:17 a.m. Saturday, 11000 block of 110th Street, Leota.

Lyon County (Iowa) Sheriff’s Office: rollover, Saturday, 210th Street and Birch Street, George, Iowa. Bonnie Rassi, 16, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, was driving a 2007 Toyota Avalon south on Birch Street where the road turned from blacktop to gravel. The vehicle rolled, landing on its top in the east ditch. All occupants of the vehicle, which was totally destroyed, refused medical treatment. The Iowa State Patrol and Lyon County Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Iowa State Patrol: 5:45 p.m. Monday, K30, north of A42, Lyon County. Kory Kock, 21, of Alvord, Iowa, was driving a 1998 Dodge Intrepid northbound on K30, and Michael Zylstra, 24, of Rock Valley, Iowa, was driving a 2021 Honda Civic southbound on K30 when the vehicles collided head-on. Both men were wearing their seeatbelts. Kock was transported via Lyon County Ambulance to Avera Rock Valley, while Zylstra was transported via Lyon County Ambulance to Avera Rock Rapids.

Police

Osceola County Sheriff’s Office: convicted Kyle Dwayne Strohman, 29, of Davenport, Iowa, of driving while under the influence, third or subsequent office, a class D felony, on April 19. He will serve 180 days in the Osceola County Jail, with all but 30 days suspended and with credit for time served. He was fined $3,125, plus fees, and placed on probation for two years. He must obtain a substance abuse evaluation and follow any treatment, rehabilitation or monitoring program as recommended by that evaluation. He must also successfully complete a drinking drivers’ course as directed by his probation officer.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: arrested Victor Lewi, 25, of Little Rock, Iowa, Sunday, on a Lyon County arrest warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of OWI first offense. He was transported to Lyon County Jail.

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: arrested Deng Ding, 22, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sunday, at Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort, on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts. He was transported to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, where he was also housed on three Lyon County warrants for failure to appear.
