Library News: Week of May 21, 2023

The Nobles County Library has 29 different magazines available for checkout, spanning subjects such as birds, decorating your house, family trees, history, gardening, celebrities, health and more.

WORTHINGTON — The Nobles County Library, 407 12th St., Worthington, is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Adrian Branch Library, 214 Maine Ave., Adrian, is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Friends of the Library will have its annual meeting at 5:05 p.m. June 8, at the Nobles County Library conference room 2.

Adult programs

Please mark your calendars with these events and join us:

Board Game Night: 6 to 8 p.m. June 7. We will have games to play or bring your own.

Carol Blackford: Minnesota-born author and educator to speak, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 14.

Paper Plains: an interactive program to create paper from invasive plants, 2 to 5 p.m. June 20.

Adrian Lee: Paranormal investigator, 6 to 8 p.m. June 21, Worthington Cemetery, 2195 Nobles St. Learn about the symbolism of art in the cemetery.

Yoga with Melissa: 10 to 10:45 a.m. June 27, on the library lawn.

Frank Weber: Author/forensic psychologist will speak from 4 to 6 p.m. June 27, answer questions, sign and sell his books, discuss the latest forensic tools and perform a live demonstration of a lie detector test. From 6 to 7 p.m., Frank will speak about his latest book.

Youth Programming

Participants are responsible for their own ride to and from the library. Please stop by the library or call (507) 295-5340 to sign up your children.

Monday, May 22: Wii for students in Grades 5-9 after school until 4:45 p.m.

Tuesday, May 23: After-School Program (Grades K-5), until 4:45 p.m.

Wednesday, May 24: Story Time (toddlers and preschoolers), 10 to 11 a.m.; Just Gurlz (for girls in grades 5-9) after school until 4:45 p.m.

Kits: The libraries in the Plum Creek Library System now have a new collection of more than 130 Storytelling kits! These kits were funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. The kits have a wide variety of themes to choose from. In addition to the storybooks, some kits have music CDs, DVDs or puppets!

These kits are now available to be borrowed from any of the Plum Creek libraries — check them out now! If you’re searching on your own in the online library catalog, search by typing in ‘storytelling kits’ and choose which one you want!

Nobles County Art Center

Now showing: Area Art Show through June 30.

Art Club: Art Club meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. There is no cost to join and all are welcome to join in the fun!

The Art Center is located in the basement of the Nobles County Library. It is open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Contact the Art Center at noblearts407@gmail.com or (507) 372-8245.
